Join other parents and Community Members and meet with the Administrative Staff at SCI in a relaxed environment. The meetings are held monthly in the SCI Library. All are welcome. If you have a topic of interest or would just like to meet and share ideas in a comfortable atmosphere, please come out. This is a great opportunity to learn about your child's school. 1.    Call to Order: 6:35 p.m.
2.    Approval of Agenda: The agenda was approved as presented.
3.    Approval of Minutes: September 29, 2014 Motion (1) by Sherry, 2nd Maryn. Carried
4.   Student Council Report. A written report was provided regarding recent activities including September cookie day, October movie night and ideas for Halloween.
5.   Chair’s Report: Shawn advised that the PAC members were all asked to consider what they would like the group to accomplish this year and this will be shared with the school administration at the next meeting.
6.   Principal’s Report: – Jackie reported on upcoming events including students attending We Day, Halloween for Hunger and Peer Support Group. She noted that the student school announcements are now being posted on the school website. Written report attached.
7.   Treasurer’s Report: Verbal report given. Balance in bank account is $507.14.
8.    Correspondence: Letters from Manitoba Education and Advanced Learning regarding new textbook publication, new social studies option and Excellence in Teaching Awards. Letter from Manitoba Association of Parent Councils regarding membership. Shawn will contact MAPC to and report back.
9.    Business arising from Minutes:
·      Smoking at SCI – Shawn has been advised that the Board of Trustees cannot contravene the agreement with the Province to ban smoking on school property. Jackie advised that e-cigarettes are also banned from school property.
·       Status of ACSL funds donated to Field of Visions – Theresa contacted the division office to find out when reimbursement will be received. She was advised that they hope to be able to provide a response by the end of December.
·       Fundraising “wish list” – Rather than monetary assistance, it was suggested that there was a need for parent volunteers to help at movie night, chaperoning Social Justice field trips such as Siloam Mission, etc. Theresa will email Kevin Kitching and Chris Fredrikson, teacher advisors with Social Justice, and Jim Osler and Tony Stanley, teacher advisors for Student Council, asking if parents could provide any volunteer assistance on field trips, movie night, etc. The PAC may also be able to provide some nominal monetary assistance.
10. New Business:
·      Teacher Appreciation Lunch – The meeting discussed having week long activities and asking for more involvement from the students (ie. cards for each teacher signed by students).
·      Springfield Music Association – A suggestion was made to have a representative from SMA attend a future meeting to give a report. Shawn will contact Tim Borys, the President of SMA.

Principal’s Report October 2014

Ø    WE Day October 29, 2014

o       We have a small group of students and staff members attending.

o        Students attending are from across all grade levels. Interested students were asked to apply to attend.

Ø    Halloween for Hunger

o        Students will be collecting non-perishable food on Halloween night

o        Students are encouraged to sign up for a street

Ø    Peer Support Group

o        Tim Stearns is running the peer support group this year. A group of students are training to help other students in need. They help them become active listeners and educate them on resources available at school and in the community. 

Ø    Student School Announcements 

o    Daily announcements are being posted on school website.
