Join other parents and Community Members and meet with the Administrative Staff at SCI in a relaxed environment. The meetings are held monthly in the SCI Library. All are welcome. If you have a topic of interest or would just like to meet and share ideas in a comfortable atmosphere, please come out. This is a great opportunity to learn about your child's school. MONDAY, OCTOBER 24, 2016

1. Call to Order: 7:15 p.m.

3. Approval of Minutes: Some minor corrections were made to the minutes. The minutes of September 26, 2016 were approved as amended. Motion (2) by Shelley, 2nd by Shari. Carried.

4. Chair’s Report: Carolyn had provided a report at the AGM held immediately prior to this meeting.

5. Principal’s Report: Jackie reported on We Day applications, Halloween for Hunger, the Spirit, Community, Integrity initative and upcoming events. A copy of her report is attached.

6. Treasurer’s Report: Jodi reported that the balance in the bank account is $719.39.

7. Correspondence: Notice from Sunrise School Division regarding DPAC meeting on Tuesday, November 22, 2016 and E-Bulletin from MAPC.

8. Business arising from Minutes:
  • Results of Parent Survey – Next Steps: This item was deferred to the November meeting.

Chair’s Report October 2016

During the 2015/2016 year, our group continued to meet on a regular basis.  I will summarize the highlights of our previous year. 
We continued to discuss the role of our Parent Council group and decided that our most important role continues to be that of a liaison between the parents, students and staff at SCI.  


I attended the MAPC Annual Chairperson’s Breakfast meeting and invited Naomi Kruse, the MAPC Executive Director to join one of our meetings.  Naomi joined our February 29, 2016 meeting where she provided some insight into Parent Council roles and as well as feedback on our proposed amended Constitution.  


Reviewing the Constitution has been an ongoing process for the past two years.  Our group has approved a proposed amended Constitution which will be presented at the Annual General Meeting on Monday, October 24, 2016.  


The Parent Council hosted the 3rd SCI Staff Appreciation Luncheon on Thursday, February 11, 2016.  We again requested parent donations and received a generous $350.  We had $170.23 left over from the previous year’s luncheon for a total of $520.23.  We served lunch to approximately 70 staff members which was much appreciated by them. After our expenses, a balance of $112.23 remains and will go towards the 2017 luncheon. 


The idea of a Parent Survey has been suggested in the last few years and we handed a survey out at the September TAG meetings. We are anxious to see the results.

We are open to new ideas and suggestions for our Parent Council and look forward to another year.

 We Day
  • Applications are being put out tomorrow for 15 grade 9 students and a staff member to attend
Halloween for Hunger
  • Students will be collecting non-perishable food items on Halloween night
  • Students are encouraged to sign up for a street
 Spirit, Community, Integrity
  • Monthly events and pep rallies are being planned to help bring our SCI identity to the forefront. October 31st at 3:00 p.m. will be the first one.
  • New logo design contest will be put forth to all the students
  • Students will be encouraged to set an academic and/or social goal with their TAG teacher from 2016-2017 school year at our first Tag Meeting on Nov.3/16
