Join other parents and Community Members and meet with the Administrative Staff at SCI in a relaxed environment. The meetings are held monthly in the SCI Library. All are welcome. If you have a topic of interest or would just like to meet and share ideas in a comfortable atmosphere, please come out. This is a great opportunity to learn about your child's school. 1. Call to Order: 6:34 p.m.

2. Approval of Agenda: As there were only three voting members in attendance, there was not enough members to constitute a quorum. Without a quorum, no motions can be made and therefore, no motion was made to approve the agenda.

Principal’s Report November 2015
 
1. Friends for Life presentation on November 18, 2015, had a successful student body turn out. Thank you to our parent community for not excusing their children from this important assembly.

2. Pancake Breakfast is scheduled from December 9, 2015, all proceeds go to SCI Christmas Hampers to support families in our community.

3. Power Mechanics students have built a utility trailer that will be raffled off, with all proceeds going to the Springfield Food Bank.

4. December 11, 2015 SCI Teacher Advisors will be leading their groups in the first discussion on “Who are we …, what do we believe …,” Defining our values and identity.

5. Upcoming Events
  • December 2, 2015 – Winter Band Concert
  • December 10, 2015 – Voluntary Withdrawal date for Semester 1

1. Call to Order: 6:34 p.m

2. Approval of Agenda: The agenda was approved with an addition made by Motion (1) by Shelley and 2nd by Patricia for an addition to New business to discuss the school bike racks. Carried.

3. Approval of Minutes: September, 28, 2015 Motion (2) by Patricia, 2nd Carolyn. Carried.

4. Chair’s Report: N/A

5. Student Council Report: 
  • Tyler Gallant (President), Kaylee Sykes (VP) and Taylor Harris (Secretary) attended to introduce themselves, meet the PAC and discuss some of the councils objectives and initiatives this year. 
  • Raising student morale was discussed, initiating a game called “lip-dub”, having movie nights, continued grade wars, and organizing a student dinner/dance.
  •  Jackie suggested Student council provide a report if they’re unable to attend the PAC meetings.
6. Principal’s Report:  
  • Jackie provided a report including information on the upcoming We Day and the selection process with input from Heather. 
  • Halloween for Hunger 
  • Peer Support Group 
  • School Plans in four areas of learning: Active learners, Literacy, Numeracy and Socially Responsible Citizens. 
  • Calendar of upcoming events.

  • Tony noted the school was still under a boil water advisory until next week and everything was going well under the circumstances with bottled water and hand sanitizer being supplied; he will inform the school community through e-mail when the advisory is lifted.
6. Treasurer’s Report:
  • Balance in bank account is $652.39 plus a cheque for $125 was received from Sunrise School Division, to be deposited.
7. Correspondence:
  • A welcome letter received from Sunrise School Division board of Trustees enclosing and invitation to the Divisional PAC meeting November 24th at 7 pm, a cheque for $125 to support Parent Committee initiatives and a board highlighter regarding the new executive Management Team. 
  • Manitoba Association of Parent Councils (MAPC) 2015-2016 regular school membership registration.
8. Business Arising from Minutes:
  • Review Constitution – Shelley and Carolyn reviewed possible revisions and provided copies for everyone to review and discuss. This will be an ongoing process and project over the coming year. 
  • Items to be brought forward : Award of Excellence in Teaching (January meeting)
9. New Business:
  • A tentative date of Thursday February 11th, 2016 has been set for the teacher’s appreciation lunch. 
  • Having additional bike racks was discussed due to the numbers of bikes being ridden to school. Tony will talk with the shop teacher to see if a project could be started to weld additional spots onto the existing bike racks. 
  • Concerns were brought forward from a parent regarding the use of epi-pens and an incident where a decision was made to use another student’s epi-pen on an opposing student in an emergency situation at a hockey game. Clarification of the incident was given by Jackie and it was noted that parents were contacted and aware of the situation.

1. We Day
  • We have a group of students from grade 9 and a staff member attending
2. Halloween for Hunger
  • Students will be collecting non-perishable food items on Halloween night
  • Students are encouraged to sign up for a street
3. Peer Support Group
  • A group of students are trained to help other students in need. They help them become active listeners and educate them on resources available at school and in the community.
4. School Plans (attached)
  • We welcome any feedback or suggestions from our parent community. Our plans are developed with all staff looking at the needs of our school and are in line with the Sunrise School Division Educational Plan and the Provincial priorities for schools.
