PAC – SCI
Chair’s Report – September 28, 2015
In reviewing the work that this group has done in the last 2
years, I wanted to pull together some of the highlights of our work. The catch
was that there is really not a “highlight reel” so to speak and upon further
mental debate, I have concluded that the most important role that this group
plays is 2 fold:
- a direct conduit from administration to the community to share a more complete explanation, status update and “thinking behind decisions” that happen within SCI and school division. I think I can safely say that I and many of you, have had a LOT of intelligent dialogue outside of these meetings that have led to a better understanding for the community of what is going on at SCI and why it is happening than would have been had otherwise. This is great both for this group and the community at large.
- With a collaborative approach to working with the administration, this group can bring community opinions to the administration and work with them to help execute initiatives that are good for the school, good for the students and good for that staff. I am particularly proud of this group that they have implemented a staff appreciation day for the team here at SCI as it is important for this group to know just how valuable the community sees there contribution.
So, if our role is defined as a “two-way communications
vehicle between the community and the administration” it would make sense that
the more people involved, the more good impact can be made. I would suggest
that communications is both our greatest strength and as the situation would
have it, the most needed component from this group right now. We must continue
to enhance the communications line between the school & division
administration and the community they serve. At the same time, help them to
continue to improve the school and the division.
With that in mind, I would suggest to this group that for
the 2015/16 year, we stay focused on the theme of communication and work on
ideas that shares and connects groups.
